Founder and CEO
James McClave, has had one guiding philosophy when dealing with
clients since founding McClave Engineering Services in 1962, Listen,
Respond and Innovate. James incorporated McClave Engineering P.C.
in 1997 and has focused on turning the firm into one of the premier
engineering firms on Long Island. James’ 30-year management career
in the engineering profession transcends many areas of design, development,
and construction management. During Smithtown’s period of expansive
growth spanning the 60’s and early 80’s, James developed and managed
the engineering division of the Town of Smithtown’s Highway Department.
From 1958 to 1963 James was an engineer with the State of New York
where he was responsible for Construction, approval of workmanship
according to, plans and specifications of numerous projects throughout
the State. James started his career in engineering while serving
two years of active duty in the United States Marine Corps from
1956 until 1958. He remained in the Marine Corps Reserves until
retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1988. His commitment to his
local community was demonstrated while serving 16 years on the Smithtown
Central School District School Board from 1973 until 1989.
James earned his Master of Science Environmental Engineering from
the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1979. He received
his Bachelor of Science in Building Construction from Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute in 1956. James has had his Professional Engineers
License from the State of New York since 1961.
Design and Project Milestones:
• Designed and managed the construction of Bohemia Fire District
Sub-Stations.
• Designed
and managed the construction of Smithtown Fire District Sub-Station
and main building renovation.
• Designed and built over 250 miles of roads within the Town of
Smithtown.
• Designed and managed the construction for the Smithtown Central
School District’s 1998 bond issue. The project added over 50,000
square feet to eight elementary schools.
Patrick D. McClave, P.E.
Principal
As a principle of McClave Engineering P.C. since 1997, Patrick is
responsible for the overall management of the day-to-day operation
of projects and existing client relationships.
With over 20 years of engineering and project management experience
in the U.S., Europe and Japan, Patrick’s background is as diverse
as the consulting engineering industry. Patrick was commissioned
into the United Marine Corps in 1982 as a second lieutenant. Within
the Marine Corps, Patrick was involved in numerous construction
and design projects both in the US and, Okinawa, Japan. After leaving
the Marine Corps in 1986 Patrick worked as Superintendent for CCI
Construction. While at CCI Construction, Patrick supervised the
construction of four major high-rise office buildings along the
Dulles Airport Corridor. Subsequently, Patrick was employed by BOVIS
Construction in London as a senior engineer on the Docklands project.
His main responsibility while in England was the oversight of construction
on the Docklands light railway. Through this hands on experience,
Patrick gained a wealth of knowledge of all disciplines of engineering.
His expertise includes transportation (both highway and light-railway),
high-rise office buildings and school construction.
Throughout his career Patrick has helped to initiate preventive
maintenance programs for clients, and mediation programs for clients.
Prior to his honorable discharge as a Captain in the U.S. Marine
Corps, Patrick graduated from Virginia Military Institute with a
Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering in 1982.
Patrick D. McClave is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State
of New York.
