NYSERDA
Technical Assistance Program
Project: Pratt Institute Higgins Hall
Location: Brooklyn , New York
Completion
Date: Ongoing
Higgins
Hall is a 130 year-old building meticulously restored to serve as
Pratt Institute’s home for the School of Architecture after having
suffered extensive fire damage. With the building’s two wings and
a 24,000 square foot addition underway, the single cooling plant
that serves the building was in need of upgrade.
McClave
Engineering, through the Trane New York office, has begun a NYSERDA
Technical Assistance program to examine the existing cooling plant
and determine the most effective solution to upgrading the plant.
The determining factors will be the balance of energy efficiency,
installation costs, and the operations and maintenance costs. The
overall recommendation will be based on this total life cycle cost
analysis.
Our
cutting edge analysis includes examining numerous cooling plant
options including:
- Air
cooled chillers
- Water
cooled chillers
- Water
cooled ground source chillers
- Chillers
with the addition of Thermal Storage
Our energy engineering department has conducted energy conservation
projects and feasibility studies on all types of buildings including
schools, hospital and medical facilities, college and universities,
commercial real estate and industrial plants.
